An intimate night of bass music and performance art at Trickster’s Hideout.
Khiva has carved out a distinct space within contemporary bass music, pairing deep dubstep and soundsystem weight with vocals, lyricism and a more introspective approach to electronic music.
A longstanding presence on TRUTH’s Deep, Dark & Dangerous imprint, her productions move through gritty low frequencies, spacious percussion and darker, dreamlike atmospheres. DJ Mag described her sound as “gritty, heavy, dreamstep,” while her releases have been praised for balancing deep sub pressure with singing, rap and emotionally charged songwriting.
Joining her is Vancouver’s Subscura, a multidisciplinary performance collective bringing contemporary dance, theatre, costume and movement into the electronic music space.
Opening the evening is Josh Searles with his project Ghost Orchid.
Searles has spent close to two decades exploring the deeper edges of electronic and acoustic music. As one half of Daega Sound, alongside his brother Ben, he helped establish a distinctly West Coast approach to dubstep — deep, spacious and meticulously produced. Their catalogue has appeared on respected labels including Black Box, Hatched, Deep Heads and LoDubs, with support from Mary Anne Hobbs, Youngsta and Pinch and performances at MUTEK, Shambhala and Bass Coast.
